The Democrats renominated Walter Mondale Thursday night in New York. A suit has been filed in U. S. District Court in Raleigh asking that the State Board of Elections withhold distribution of the Nov. 4 general election ballot until a position dispute is settled. The suit, filed by supporters of U. S. Senate Republican nominee John P. East charges that the state election board acted improperly when it voted to place the U. S. Senate and House races in the middle of other statewide races. Superior Court in Columbus last week was called off due to the illness of Judge Robert E. Gaines. Carolyn Stanfield Gos nell was found guilty Wednesday of second degree murder and she still awaits sentencing. You can’t control the health of a judge, but a lot of time and money was spent subpoenaing witnesses, jurors, etc. only to have court cancelled half way through the week. “gye. C. 28782 Realty Firms Announce Merger An announcement has been made announcing the merger of Town & Country Realty Gallery of Homes and John Knoblock Realty as of August 15th. The company will be known as Town & Country-Knoblock Realty Gal lery of Homes and will maintain offices in both Columbus and Tryon. The Columbus staff will retain its present location on Mills Street with Earl Thompson, owner, as Sales Manager; Janet Judson as Secretary, Bookkeeper and Relocation Director; and John Christopher, Betty and Chuck Ross, Julia Schultz and Emily Thompson as the sales team. The Tryon otiice is located on South Trade Street adjoining Tryon Plaza and is currently undergoing expansion and re modeling in order to accomodate a larger staff and create the headquarters for the Oak Hall Condominium project. Working in this office will be Terri Dorsam, manager; Debby Covil, Secretary and the following sales counselors: Homer Brice, John Knoblock, Kay Price and Robert Thompson. The staffs at both Town & Country Realty and Knoblock Realty feel that the merger will enable them to work as a larger team to better serve their clients needs. MONDAY, AUGUST 18, 1980 State Finalist Miss Barbara Warren Miss Barbara Warren, age 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Warren of Campobello, S. C., has been selected to be a State Finalist in the 1980 Miss United Tennager Pageant to be held at Carolina Inn, Columbia, S. C. at 7:30 p.m. on August 30, 1980. The Pageant is the Official Sate-Wide Finals for the Miss United Teenager Pageant. The winner of the State Finals of the Miss United Teenager Pageant will receive an all-ex pense paid trip to compete in the National Finals, a three phase pageant in Hollywood, Calif.; Waikiki Beach, Hawaii and Washington, D. C.; where she will compete for $15,000 in Cash Scholarships, a new automobile for her reigning year, a trip to Europe, $5,000 appearance con tract, $2,000 wardrobe and other awards. Contestants will be judged on Continued On Back Page Price 10c Per Cop; Charged With Growing Marijuana Friday’s Spartanburg Herald had a picture of marijuana confiscated at a farm near Landrum on the Spartanburg- Greenville County line. Robert Christopher Pace, 55, of Lan drum Route 3, Peeler Road, was arrested Thursday and charged with manufacturing marijuana after police found the plants growing in a corn field there. Six-foot stalks of marijuana were growing between rows of corn. Police pulled up 147 plants weighing about 300 pounds. When dried the crop would yield about 70 to 80 pounds of dried marijuana.
